Hi, and welcome to the Safeguarding Hub in collaboration with Health and Safety Solutions.

This page is your main hub where you can find all of the information regarding updates to the EYFS 2025, including guidance on changes, free practical tips, resources and more. These updates have to be implemented in every setting by September 2025, and we’re here to make sure you’re up to date and stay compliant.

Safeguarding Reforms 2025

One of the big changes is a brand-new expectation and criteria for Safeguarding Training that ALL practitioners working in the Early Years will have to adhere to. The main areas you’ll need to work on are:

• Identifying signs of Abuse and Neglect

• How to respond, record, and refer concerns or allegations

• The Safeguarding policy and procedures of the setting

• Removal of ‘Lead Practitioner’, replaced with Designated Safeguarding Lead – with new clear expectations

• Renewing Safeguarding Training every Two Years with an optional Annual Refresher and other changes

First Aid Training Reforms 2025

A new EYFS makes a significant change to who in your team can be paediatric first aid (PFA) trained for settings ratios. This has strengthened the potential for good Safeguarding practice in Early Years settings.

The main areas of change are:

• Which Students and Trainees can be included

• Staff:Child Ratios

• Paediatric First Aid trained childminders

• When PFA certified staff need to be present

Our online Safeguarding Hub, which is a membership resource for all things safeguarding and child protection, has short filmed clips of PFA techniques with our trainers that managers can use with their teams to keep their knowledge updated.

Safeguarding Hub Update July 2026

This month’s instalments provide a revised Safe Sleep CPD bundle that has been adapted to reflect Government guidance and expectations of a revised EYFS 2026. We have also included a link to download some excellent evidence base safe sleep factsheets produced by the Lullaby Trust.

Our latest Safeguarding Conversation is once again with expert trainer Catherine Lawler. She talks with Rachel about how DSL’s can recognise and support adult and young adult victims of domestic abuse who work in early years settings. Catherine refers to the Governments recently published strategy to address violence against women and girls (VAWG) and a link to this has been added to the Safeguarding and Child Protection section on the dashboard.

We have a new date for DSLs to join us online for the latest updates which will take place on Tuesday the 22nd of September 7.00pm – 8.00pm. You can register for this session in the Learning Community section on the dashboard.

Safeguarding Hub Update April 2026

This month’s instalment features a Safeguarding Conversation, where Rachel and leadership specialist Pennie Akehurst discuss the highly relevant subject of psychological safety.

We also have the recording of the latest DSL Update session with Rachel on the 26th of March for those who missed it or want to return to the presentation.

A new and revised Working Together To Safeguard Children statutory guidance came out in March making the 2026 version the latest and most up to date publication. You can find this in our Safeguarding and Child Protection area on the dashboard by selecting legislation and guidance listed under useful links.

Safeguarding Hub Update January 2026

This month’s instalment is all about child absence, more so how we respond to absence from a safeguarding perspective. Drawing upon best practice and referencing the recent changes in a revised EYFS, this latest Safeguarding Conversation interview explores how to identify vulnerabilities and concerns for children responding in a way that supports their wellbeing and protection. The interview can be found in the Learning Community section of the dashboard.

We have also added a link to register on the next DSL update session presented by Rachel, which is taking place on the 26th of March, 7pm – 8pm. This link is also in the Learning Community section of the dashboard.

Safeguarding Hub Update October 2025

This month’s instalment continues to build upon strengthened safeguarding practices reflected in a new Early Years Foundation Stage statutory framework.

We have renamed the hygiene section of the dashboard Food Safety. This reflects a greater emphasis upon safer eating practices in the early years. We have created a comprehensive Safer Eating CPD bundle for you to use with teams to communicate the latest legislation and guidance that is now in place in England. The bundle has an adaptable session plan, factsheet, links to numerous resources and offers a quiz, activities and scenarios to use with your team to consolidate learning.

We have included the recording of our September DSL update session for those who couldn’t make the live session.  This is situated in the Learning Community section of the dashboard.

Safeguarding Hub Update July 2025

This month’s content provides new and important information on the revised Early Years Foundation Stage safeguarding reforms. With just over a month before the changes come into place on the 1st of September, we have another in-depth interview with Rachel and Kathy Brodie from Early Years TV all about the reforms. This can be found in the Learning Community section on the dashboard.

We have also updated our safeguarding and child protection compliance and best practice audit to include all the reform changes and added a downloadable planning template to use with the audit to recognise gaps and record any actions needing to be taken.

A link to the Early Years Foundation Stage government consultation response document has been added to the safeguarding and child protection section. Once the EYFS framework is updated the consultation document will no longer be needed. Changes will therefore be recognised in a new EYFS which can be found in the legislation and guidance section.

A new safeguarding conversation interview between Rachel and social workers from a complex safeguarding team all about child criminal exploitation can be found in the learning community section.

Safeguarding Hub Update April 2025

This month’s content has been created for Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSL’s), whether experienced, new to role or a rising DSL’s this is for you.

We have created a CPD bundle all about multi-agency working in the early years. Bundle includes:

  • CPD session plan.
  • Safeguarding Conversation interview with Rachel and IRO social worker, Kerrie Scraton on ‘The role of the Independent Reviewing Officer: Working with professionals to contribute and engage with multi agency child protection meetings’.
  • A factsheet on multi-agency working in the early years.
  • Scenarios and reflective activities to use and share with teams featuring multi-agency working in the early years.

We have added the recording of the March DSL update session for those who couldn’t attend on the night to watch at their own convenience.
